Born in 1937 at Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) Acharya Aupmanyav (Lakshmi Kant Awasthi) did his graduation (1958) and Law Graduation (1960) from the University of Lucknow. He did not feel at home with legal profession and was back again to his almamater for post graduate course. He sought admission in Philosophy, completed double post graduate courses and was awarded Gold Medal for securing top position in the Department (1964). While doing research in the field Logic and Language, he was appointed Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy. He taught his students both Orthodox and Heterodox systems of Indian Philosophy, ancient Greek and contemporary Western philosophy, philosophy of science, Aesthetics and Logic.

Since early childhood, Acharya had great fascination towards plant kingdom. During university days, a new desire was being nurtured: a desire for acquaintance with practicing Yogis in the Himalayas. He dropped his career at the university in 1971, and left for Himalayas.

For twenty long years, he traveled through the forests and hill tracks of Western Himalayas, Himanchal, Garhwal, Kumaun and Nepalese foot hills – in northern India and wild zones of Rajasthan, Malva and Greater Bundelkhand in central India, spending most of the time with primitive communities and collecting medicinal folklores from amongst Tharu, Bhotia, Banjara, Kharnat, Savaria, Kwandar, Banbatore, Banmanus, Kanjara and other ethnic/tribal people.

Ethno – botanical studies of indigenous medicinal herbs stimulated him to enquire into classical and popular Ayurveda. He devoted himself in search of unidentified, dubious herbs that have been described in the literature as having great significance; herbs that are legendary among people. He has done a number of experiments with rare herbs and formulated a number of extraordinary novel formulations.

In the course of experimentation with the herbs like Jal kandu, Apamarg, Bala, Nirgundi banda, and the like he discovered the fact that fine aquous extracts from the fresh herb, when administered to the ailing person shows an instantaneous effect on his physiology and psychology.

He started his final journey towards ‘Brahm’ in January 2019.

Physically he is not with us anymore but we are continually following his shown path and trying to ease peoples discomforts by his epic formulations and inspiration.

His message is well expressed from the lines of this shloka

न त्वहम् कामये राज्यम् न स्वर्गम् न पुनर्भवम्। कामये दु:खतप्तानम् प्राणिनामार्तिनाशनम्।।
I do not seek kingdom nor do I want heaven, not even rebirth! I only seek to be bear the strength to assuage the pain of suffering creatures.
